Some of you are avid online gamers, some of you have played the occasional online game before. WoW? Dofus? Wakfu? Final Fantasy 11/14? Diablo Whatever? The multitude other online games? Pretty much, there's a boat FULL of this shit around.
It's turtles all the way down.
However, back about 10 years ago, when the internet was still a baby, a game came out, it was called Runescape, and at the time, it was the best thing ever.
Shown: the best game ever.
It was a game that didn't require an enormous download, was pretty much free, and had a million people playing with you and about half of them were NOT dicks.
Sweet!
Times changed, Jagex changed their policies, and people left the game for bigger and better things, like WoW, but many people who play online games today have a special place for Runescape in their hearts.
And whenever they're asked if they played Runescape, they lie and say "Lolnoitsucks".
Jackasses.
You'd be surprised though now, Runescape is still very much alive. Even after Jagex removed the ability to kill players; this happened:
Gotta love the playerbase.
They lost hundreds of thousands, but recently, Jagex had fixxed their shit and began making more changes. New skills, new abilities, new trinkets, they update erryfuckingday.
Moreover, they reinstated PKing, so now, this once dying game is back and more powerful than ever.
I wish the same could be said for FF14, but eh.
So, why am I writing about this? One of my darling readers had emailed me asking me to check back onto Runescape and write if it's worth going backto or not.
My opinion matters now.
My reaction to the email.
I had once played Runescape, and so I still had an account. I forgot my password and junk and when I created it, I did what every other little kid did when he was asked for secret questions.
"DFNSJKL"
Needless to say, I had to deal with Jagex customer support, what a fucking headac-
Five minutes done.
Wait... wha? The support is awesome? Holy shit.
I logged in, and I played around. I bought membership for a month and ran around doing some member activities. I played some Castle Wars;
I'll say it right now: Ancient Magics is BULLSHIT.
Tried the new shit, the Guthix Wars minigame
The game SHOULD be called: "Stand there and let me fucking hit you", because that is ALL THAT IT IS.
And a bunch of other stuff. Running Runes, trading, PKing, the Tzaar Fight Pits, a whole bunch of stuff.
Needless to say, the entire world is BUSY with people, there are people all over the damn place, where in World of Warcraft the zones are all fucking empty because of instances/ because they all stay in one fucking place (Orgrimmar and Stormwind), their fucking major cities.
I had some fun times, and some times where I was fucking frustrated. Like trying to steal seeds from the master farmer:
EVERY FUCKING TIME.
But I can honestly say:
"Was fun". If they do a SERIOUS boost to their graphics, people would turn around and play this game religiously again. Nowadays, there's a fair amount of people, enough to make it seem as though the world is alive. Plus, you STILL don't need to download shit, it's ALL ON FLASH.

I played RS in elementary school. The graphics definitely improved compared to then, but it still looks very, well, old. I got too accustomed to WoW, GW, etc. I think I'll pass on RS. :x

ReplyDeleteI played this a LONG time ago. It was fun at the time, but it eventually got boring and repetitive.
ReplyDeleteRunescape was my first taste (so to speak) of the MMORPG genre and I played it for years. Naturally, I moved onto World of Warcraft which is a fun but also time-consuming game ;)
ReplyDeletefuck yeah runescape was my first step into mmorpg gaming. I hold a very special place in my heart for it <3
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, but got old.
ReplyDeleteI used to play this, but only the free version!
ReplyDeleteThis also took my MMO virginity. Then I moved to Ultima Online and other things. Still have my account though...
ReplyDeleteIts no Ultima Online.
ReplyDeleteGood to see my childhood is still up and going better than ever :D I might end up going back to leveling up my level 90 account soon :3
ReplyDeleteThis game was good, back before they did all the graphical updates. I mean that was the best time of the game. But now its just trying to get as much money and rage :/
ReplyDeleteHaven't played this in years. I hate Cataclysm though, so perhaps this is a good time to head back?
ReplyDeleteI was tempted to try it.
ReplyDeleteI may give it a try in the end.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including my Turtles All The Way Down artwork in your blog post. I did notice, however, that the image is linked to itself. Would it be at all possible to change it so that the artwork links directly to my online shop? In this manner, anyone who might want to could find and perhaps purchase the artwork for themselves. It would mean a great deal to me. The address to my shop is http://krougeau.artfire.com
Thanks & have a wonderful day!
